Authorized prescribers use the ePrescribing application to generate a prescription for a patient. As the prescriber "writes" the prescription, the new medication being written for is checked against the patient's allergies and other current medications. This helps to identify potential safety issues and generates an alert for the prescriber to address. In addition, the system alerts the prescriber if the medication is not covered by the patient's insurance or if there is a less expensive equivalent available. Once all issues have been resolved, the prescription is sent electronically to the patient's preferred pharmacy or can be printed.
